A Great Way To Save and Display Your Work – Blurb It!
A great way to display your creations, show off your portfolio, or simply remember your proudest moments is to create a photobook with Blurb.
I have actually used Blurb a few times for various projects, and I can personally recommend the quality. The free software makes creating a professional looking book really simple, and gives you complete control over how your book will look. The print and page quality is excellent.
If you are an experienced cake decorator, maybe you would like to try your hand at writing a how-to or tutorial of some ideas that you have come up with. Blurb is the perfect way to create and sell your work!

Learn Online With Craftsy!
I have discovered a new website called Craftsy! It is a fantastic resource for people to learn all sorts of crafts online in the comfort of their own home, online. One of the great sections of this site is the fabulous cake decorating courses.
I have started watching one on “Vintage Cakes – Modern Methods” and will be able to write a bit more about it when I have finished. But what I do like so far is the easy to follow, step-by-step modules that you can follow at your own pace. There are also great downloadable sheets for templates, ingredients, tools and ideas that you can use to create your own cake.
The instructors are well known and experienced cake decorators (such as Colette Peters. You can read an interview with her here!). They explain everything very clearly, and it’s so easy to follow when you can see the various techniques demonstrated.
If you are still not convinced, you can sign up to try one of the free mini classes such as the one on “Modern Buttercream”. I am sure that once you have tried this class, you will be excited to try some of the other ones!
If cake decorating isn’t your thing, or if you know someone else who would appreciate a gift of an online class in another “Crafty” area, such as sewing, knitting, quilting, weaving, woodworking, you can click on the link below and choose a class as a gift!
If you do decide to try one of the Craftsy Online Cake Decorating Classes, let me know how you get on, and send me a photo of your finished project! We can feature it here on How To Ice A Cake!

New Cake Decorating Beginner’s Guide
… So basically the Wiltons 50 piece caddy and decorating set contains everything you need to get started and decorate your cake.
So the next thing is – is it any good?! Lets ask some of the reviewers..
Most people said that this kit contains all of the basics that you need to get started, and makes it cheaper than buying each of the items individually. They also comment on the fact that the caddy is big enough to fit a lot of extras, and this makes it very useful to store and carry all of your must have items.
Another positive that keeps coming up is that the instruction guide is very useful and easy to follow for beginners.
The Not So Good
One cake decorator was very happy with the kit, apart from the pastel colors of the caddy, and the fact that some of the longer/larger Wilton tips don’t fit in the case and allow it to close.
Overall, it seems that an overwhelming majority of people that bought this caddy as a gift or for themselves were more than happy with it. It would make a PERFECT gift for someone who likes to make cakes, and would like to get started in cake decorating.
