Beautiful Red Roses!
I came across this link recently and thought that it was a really great step-by-step tutorial on making a simple cake look stunning by covering it with beautiful red roses.
The website is in Italian, but the pictures are so good that it would be easy enough to follow even if you don’t speak a word!
With some practice, it is a technique that I am sure could be used on many, many other cakes.
For advice on getting a lovely deep red colour for your red roses, have a look at the tips and tricks page.
Learn Online With Craftsy!
I have discovered a new website called Craftsy! It is a fantastic resource for people to learn all sorts of crafts online in the comfort of their own home, online. One of the great sections of this site is the fabulous cake decorating courses.
I have started watching one on “Vintage Cakes – Modern Methods” and will be able to write a bit more about it when I have finished. But what I do like so far is the easy to follow, step-by-step modules that you can follow at your own pace. There are also great downloadable sheets for templates, ingredients, tools and ideas that you can use to create your own cake.
The instructors are well known and experienced cake decorators (such as Colette Peters. You can read an interview with her here!). They explain everything very clearly, and it’s so easy to follow when you can see the various techniques demonstrated.
If you are still not convinced, you can sign up to try one of the free mini classes such as the one on “Modern Buttercream”. I am sure that once you have tried this class, you will be excited to try some of the other ones!
If cake decorating isn’t your thing, or if you know someone else who would appreciate a gift of an online class in another “Crafty” area, such as sewing, knitting, quilting, weaving, woodworking, you can click on the link below and choose a class as a gift!
If you do decide to try one of the Craftsy Online Cake Decorating Classes, let me know how you get on, and send me a photo of your finished project! We can feature it here on How To Ice A Cake!
