Very often one has to queue to get in but it is absolutely worth it. We tried several dishes and sweets. Dishes were delicious and some sweets were extraordinary (e.g. Kaiserschmarrn). The Russian Punch Tort however is by far the best cake I have ever eaten! The interior too is splendid.
Best Sacher Cake and other amazing pastries -
Of course, Demel is one of the k.u.k. bakeries and, accordingly, serves excellent cakes and pastries. The Sacher is even better than the one in Hotel Sacher itself - but that’s just my humble opinion based on several visits in Demel. Demel also offers their famous Kaiserschmarrn to go, but I highly recommend to wait to be seated and enjoy it in the beautiful café with its great atmosphere. And you should definitely try the „Nougatknödel“ - I haven’t expected them to be so delicious. Next time in Vienna, I’ll come visit again.
Demel is always a good idea since 1786 Yesterday we've tried the lightly sweetened and fluffy Kaiserschmarrn with stewed plums, a traditional Austrian dessert. They take their name after the emperor Franz Joseph I, who was fond of these fluffy shredded pancake.
I'm not usually a huge fan of desserts but I couldn't resist being in Vienna and not dive into lots of them!
We've tried the famous Apfelstrudel, Sachertorte, Punschkrapfel, Esterhazytorte, Raspberry and Yoghurt cake, and last but not least, the delicious Krapfen (with apricot jam) and they were all an absolute delight!
But you just have to try it yourself, so if you ever find yourself in this splendid city, make sure you try the Demel sweets! The interior of the café is beyond impressive
